Pondering 2-0

Written by Chad Potier
Here we are, Tiger fans, after 2 weeks, LSU sits at 2-0 with not-so-impressive wins over UNC and Vanderbilt. The team seems to be like a V-8 engine with 4 bad spark plugs, it's just not firing on all cylinders.

Jefferson continued to struggle, going 8-for-20 with 96 passing yards. The offense seemed to get somewhat of a burst in the 4th qtr. when the Tigers had 17 points with 150 rushing yards.

Stevan Ridley erased any doubt he was the starting running back, with his career-high 17 carries for 159 yards and a career-long 65-yard touchdown run. But a corps of freshmen showed their skills as well, with true freshman running back Alfred Blue leading the way with his 5 carries 23 yards and a TD. Michael Ford and Spencer Ware got in on the action as well; Ford with 3 carries for 16 yards, and Ware with 1 carry and a 27 yard reception. In all, 7 Tigers combined to rush for 280 yards on 50 carries.

There was even an appearance from UGA's favorite Tiger, QB Jarrett Lee, who went 1 for 1, passing for 16 yards (and no completions to the other team).

The defense held Vanderbilt to 135 total yards and 8 first downs and also had 6sacks on quarterback Larry Smith. Kelvin Sheppard led the D with 9 tackles. Patrick Peterson wasn't quite the "BIG SPLASH" he was in the UNC game, but Vandy did a very good job of keeping the ball away from him, allowing him 2 returns for only a total of 8 yards.

LSU did move up in both polls this week, 19th in AP Top 25; 16th in the Coaches' Poll. This team still continues to be a work in progress, and at 1-0 in the SEC and 2-0 overall, things could be worse. Imagine if you were a Virgina Tech fan right now...
